Who Do I Help?
Hi, I’m Marissa Barranco — a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and former teacher with over 15 years of experience working with children and families in the education and higher ed setting.
I specialize in helping children who struggle with separation anxiety. These challenges often show up as difficulty separating from a parent, clinginess at school drop-off, being unable to stay in the house while a parent works outside, or constant texting and checking in when a parent is away. I also work with children experiencing emotional regulation difficulties and the lingering effects of early stress or trauma.
My approach is gentle, evidence-based, and deeply relational. I use tools like EMDR, CBT, and play therapy techniques to help children understand and regulate their emotions, feel more confident, and experience greater calm and connection in their daily lives.
But I don’t do this work in isolation—I involve parents and caregivers in every step of the process. From our first session to ongoing support, I see you as a key part of your child’s healing. Together, we create a foundation of support that continues well beyond the therapy room.
I also support women who are carrying anxiety and the weight of past trauma—often quietly, while juggling a lot of responsibility. Many of the women I work with are outwardly capable and dependable, but inside they feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and stuck in self-doubt. Rest feels like something that has to be earned, and even then, it’s hard to access. Together, we explore these patterns with compassion, helping you find relief from anxiety, heal old wounds, and reconnect with a steadier, more self-assured version of yourself.
It’s truly an honor to walk alongside families and individuals during such meaningful—and sometimes challenging—moments. Watching a child grow into a greater sense of safety and resilience, or a woman reconnect with her strength, clarity, and calm, is a privilege I never take for granted.
If you or your child is struggling—or if you're feeling weighed down and unsure of how to keep going—I’m here to support you.
